Virgin Galactic said Oct. 26, 2026 that its lead next-generation Spaceship is set to travel from Mesa, Arizona, to Spaceport America in New Mexico on Oct. 28, 2026. Virgin Galactic will depart the Spaceship Factory in Mesa with the ship mated to Eve for a captive-carry flight. The company described the move as ending vehicle assembly and starting flight test preparations. The announcement came from Mesa, Arizona.
Virgin Galactic will disclose the name earlier on Oct. 28, 2026. The company chose it through a public vote, and voters came from more than 80 countries.
Virgin Galactic Chief Executive Officer Michael Colglazier called the arrival an enormous milestone. He said it comes from a long effort to create what he described as the world’s first human spaceship platform, which serves regular commercial spaceflight. “The ship is magnificent, and we are thrilled to introduce it to the world later this week,” Colglazier said. He made the statement with the Oct. 26 announcement.
Virgin Galactic has moved the first commercial spaceflight for the lead spaceship to early Q2 2027. The company said it needs more time to complete avionics software integration and validation (testing and confirming the spacecraft’s flight software), a process it describes as exhaustive. The updated timeline reflects the additional time needed for that work.
Commercial spaceflight operations for the second spaceship should begin in late Q2/early Q3 2027. Virgin Galactic expects two-ship commercial spaceflight operations by early Q3 2027, following the additional avionics testing time.
A June 5, 2026 schedule called for Delta flight testing during the third quarter of 2026, with commercial service set for year-end. On June 5, 2026, Virgin Galactic placed the first Delta-class spacecraft in a test hangar for ground-based trials. Crews in New Mexico trained aboard VSS Unity using glide mode as of June 2026. That schedule conflicts with the October update that moved the first commercial flight to early Q2 2027.
Factory teams in Mesa are completing the structural test assembly for the wing and fuselage. Teams there have finished structural testing for the feather assembly successfully. The work also includes completing the second spaceship and preparing the rocket motor assembly line.
More than 100 members of the astronaut community are entering the first readiness and preparation phase. The move follows the lead spaceship’s move to Spaceport America with two-ship operations expected by early Q3 2027. More cohorts will join on a rolling basis.
Virgin Galactic offered 50 seats on the coming Delta fleet at $750,000 each. Buyers from more than 20 countries had inquired, and hundreds of prospective customers were already on the waiting list.
The company planned a June 10, 2026 redemption of as much as $30.5 million in first-lien notes carrying 9.80% interest, funded by new share issuance. It targeted note maturities due in 2026, 2027 and 2028 while cutting interest costs and reducing existing holders’ stakes.
For the first quarter of 2026, Virgin Galactic reported a loss per share of $0.81, beating the consensus estimate of $0.91. Operating costs fell 26% from the prior year.
Shares of Virgin Galactic ended trading at $4.66, up 77% over the prior 30 days. The price stood nearly 47% below the 52-week peak of $8.90.
Jefferies kept its buy rating on Virgin Galactic stock and set a $5 price target. The firm pointed to Delta program progress and a manageable liquidity position. Institutional investors seeking liquid alternatives turned to publicly traded space peers during the SpaceX IPO roadshow, creating a halo effect that helped Virgin Galactic.
Virgin Galactic said it would provide live updates during the Oct. 28 flight through its social media channels if weather and technical readiness allow. The company disclosed the plans on Oct. 26 from Mesa.
The company plans to discuss future flight tests and financial results during its third quarter earnings call in November. No specific date for the call was given beyond that month.
