Reporting a copyright problem
If you believe that material on this site infringes a copyright you own or are authorized to act for, send us a notice through our contact page (choose “Copyright notice”) that includes:
- your name and email address, where we can reach you about the notice;
- a description of the copyrighted work you believe has been infringed;
- the exact address (URL) of the material on this site and enough detail for us to find it;
- a statement that you believe in good faith that the use is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent or the law;
- a statement that the information in your notice is accurate and, under penalty of perjury, that you are the copyright owner or authorized to act on the owner’s behalf;
- your physical or electronic signature (typing your full name is enough).
These are the elements required by the United States Digital Millennium Copyright Act (17 U.S.C. § 512); we review similar notices from anywhere. Incomplete notices may delay our response. We review every notice and, where appropriate, remove or disable access to the material. When the material was posted by a commenter, we try to tell them about the notice.
Counter-notices
If something you posted was removed and you believe this was a mistake or a misidentification, you may send a counter-notice through the same contact page that includes: your name and the contact details the law asks for in a counter-notice (17 U.S.C. § 512(g)(3)), including your email address; the material that was removed and where it appeared; a statement under penalty of perjury that you believe in good faith it was removed by mistake or misidentification; a statement that you consent to the jurisdiction of the courts where you live (or, if you live outside the United States, any judicial district in which we may be found) and will accept service of process from the person who sent the original notice; and your physical or electronic signature. We may forward the counter-notice to the person who sent the original notice and may restore the material after 10 to 14 business days unless they tell us they have started legal action.
Anyone who knowingly makes a materially false claim in a notice or counter-notice may be liable for damages, including costs and legal fees.
Repeat infringers
We remove the ability to comment from people who repeatedly post material that infringes others’ rights.
Other unlawful content
To report other content you consider unlawful, such as defamation or a privacy violation, use the same contact page and choose “Comment or content report”. Explain why you consider it unlawful, give the exact address of the content, your name and email address, and confirm that your report is made in good faith. We will confirm that we received it, review it promptly and objectively, and tell you what we decided.
