NASA’s Chief Scientist for Astromaterials Curation and the agency’s Astromaterials Curator will host a public webinar online at 2 p.m. Eastern Time on Nov. 2, 2026.
According to Astrobiology Web, the presenters will discuss the latest Astromaterials Newsletter—a NASA publication that shares updates on sample availability—during the event. The event is open to the public.
The Astromaterials Acquisition and Curation Office at NASA’s Johnson Space Center produces the Astromaterials Newsletter twice each year to inform the sample science community about policy updates, collection changes, and which samples are available. NASA says the newsletter’s main goal is to increase the scientific yield from its astromaterials collections by improving communication and raising awareness of sample availability among researchers. It also provides timely updates on laboratory work and Johnson Space Center activities that might affect the collections or the timing of sample allocations. NASA states that it created the newsletter to ensure a fair and transparent method for sharing news about available samples across all collections.
According to Astrobiology Web, those interested can submit questions for the webinar and upvote others’ submissions via the link https://nasa.cnf.io/sessions/sfnm/#!/dashboard before and during the event. Those interested should email questions about the webinar announcement to Dr. Kathleen Vander Kaaden, NASA’s Chief Scientist for Astromaterials Curation, at Kathleen.e.vanderkaaden@nasa.gov. NASA says it will not record the webinar, but NASA will make the presentation slides publicly available after the session ends.
